Aegina – The Retreat | Aegina Island, Greece |
It must be the light. Maybe it’s the soil. Perhaps the secret is hidden in its ancient past. Quite possibly a combination of all three. One thing’s for sure: there’s something about Aegina Island.
Home of the Greek Pistachio Nut, this Greek island has also been home to some of Greece’s most famous and revered artists; from Nikos Kazantzakis (writer and poet; Zorba the Greek) to Yannis Moralis (visual artist and painter). What’s more, standing gloriously ‘above’ the island is the Temple of Aphaia (c. 500 BC). Proudly looking over the blankets of pistachio tree orchards that cover the island. But even before the pistachio trees, this temple has been watching over the island for over 2,ooo years.
Here amongst the pistachios, we will help you become acquainted with this ancient land. An extraordinary 5 day/ 4 night journey of cooking, eating, and walking through ancient olive groves. The experiences that will make this journey unique will focus on an array of activities that will enrich your knowledge of the Mediterranean way of life.
Together we will walk through rugged paths to breathtaking sunset views of vast blue waters kissing the feet of rolling hills. We will picnic in an ancient olive grove. We will sip wine whilst gazing at the magnificent sunset from the patio of our very own villa.
Our cooking classes will need fresh fish and produce. We’ll source these together from the fresh fish market and farmers’ markets, maybe stopping in between for a Greek coffee or (if you really want to be Greek) ouzo and meze.
As your hosts we will ensure that your overall experience is enriched with activities such as sunset yoga, a ceramic lesson, ancient temple visit, and several other surprise activities.
